I made a dress, a kitchen linen dress!

The days routine is changing around here. Percy is getting older, busier and tired earlier in the day. It means that nights can't be spent out and about, but instead home, as he now has a bedtime. This isn't all bad, but last week, It got to me a little. I realised this is where we were at. We had to leave dinner with friends earlier than hoped, and it felt strange coming home, not ready for bed. I decided to use that night, to make myself another dress, and this one was made with a very pretty tablecloth. I've used kitchen linens before to make clothes, like this skirt. This dress started off just as another skirt, but I was loving using my new sewing machine (yep, I lashed out and upgraded), that I decided to make it a dress. Here are some funny photos, hopefully you can see how the dress looks. It's a simple elastic waste, which I don't mind wearing anymore (gone are the awkward teenage days of hating elastic waisted anything), but I do love belts, so it works well with a belt too!

I added lace around the neckline so I didn't have to worry too much about neat edges and made it breast feeding friendly by adding buttons on the inside of the dress so the straps can come loose and I can lower the front down.

I look like my dad in this pic. You have no idea what he looks like, so I did not need to tell you but why not!

Im very pleased with this dress. And Im LOVING how easy it it to sew on my new machine so who knows, I might start making dresses every night! If you'd like to see another handmade dress, check out Zara's new Vintage Sheet Dress. It's very pretty, and she used vintage bed sheets.

Happy friday to you all, and see you soon!

xx

  7. I love it to bits! You are so talented. I really want to try making a dress more than ever now. Did you use a pattern? I'm often put off as there's nothing breast feeding friendly but your button idea is fab! Very inspirational.

    1. Thanks Suki! Try make one, it was easier than I thought! I didnt use a pattern. I just had a look at some simple dresses and skirts I own and went from there. Ive also made a button open one for BF, but I find the strap idea easier to make. Go for it, and let me know when you do!
